Weird dream with flower hands

I saw n'djamena. She was with her new beau.
He looked just like Alain
when he was young.
I went up to them.
It was a group.
I go to kiss her hello. She leans back and gives me her hand. I go to shake it in confusion. They all make weird sounds like making fun of me. Then her beau and her make me place my hand [right hand] palm up, fingers closed, pointing at the sky.
Then they make this weird sound like a river or the wind, some kind of hissing sound.
As they all look at my hand, they make me understand that I should start opening my fingers slowly.
When they're open, half way open, with a movement that looks like birds drinking out of a lake,
they use their hands with pointed fingers and dip them into my hand like they're drinking out of it.
Everyone was making a gulp, gulp, gulp sound, and it seemed like they were telling me that this is the new way to say hello, you know...new hand shake?
The end.

Old Man Rock

This is still "La Soufrière", the bottom of the crater. We still have 1 hour to the top.
My foot is on Old Man Rock's forehead.
Do you see it?
This formation is due to a smaller rock falling on this one thus splitting it in three.

This one sold in Paris

So a friend of mine brought this painting in Paris with her and sold it. Yeah!!!
I need the $ or should I say €€€ because I get paid in Euros :)
I wish the photo could show you the true colors of the painting... It doesn't do it justice.
I need a new digital camera. Mine is shot (get it? ha, ha, ha). The one I really want is the Canon powershot A630. I love it!
Can you buy it for me? Pleeeease.
It's on my wish list from Amazon.

I'm claiming this one!!!

Yeah! This is my precious... mine, mine, all mine. Such a beautiful place...and what a handsome guy. We saw a young eel in the rock. It was so pretty. I spent the day diving off and climbing back again...a well spent day I say.

La Soufrière

This is "La Soufrière", the live volcano on my home of Guadeloupe. The last time it erupted was in 1976. This white smoke you see is sulfur gazes coming out of one of the craters. The smell is toxic but I like it. It took about 1 1/2 hour to hike up there and I thought I was going to lose a lung. Although painful sometimes, the hike was well worth it. We were higher than the clouds.

Fascinating!!! I think I hate my family

I truly do.
What a fucking bunch of conniving selfish morons.
I guess I want to vent.
I feel the hatred and rage coming up through my veins all the way up to my head.
I just don't understand.
I'm happiest away from them.
I feel closer to strangers than I do my own flesh and blood.
What a bunch of fucking idiots.
ALL OF THEM!
They can go FUCK themselves!
should I tell them? I wonder.
I think I'll just what I did before...just stay away.
Life is too short to hang around assholes, especially smelly ones.
I should just move on...
Physically or in my head?
I guess there is no difference.
I'm listening to "god is a dj"
I'm happy. It's happy music.
My head is bobbing up and down.
Life is good again.
They can just go fuck themselves.
Actually, there is one...yeah but she's crazy.
Never mind.
I will paint
I will paint
I will paint

I'm home?

So here I am back in Guadeloupe.
It's weird being here...
I've been living in St. Louis for 20 years now and now I'm in Guadeloupe, my home country.
I feel like I know this place and at the same time I don't.
I operate through the system but I feel like it's a dream.
It's almost as if I'm still in St. Louis in the "real" world, the awake world but I can't do anything in it and Guadeloupe is the dream world where I move around and make things happen.
I have been painting again, which is good. I've sold both paintings I've made, which is better.

I'm strange!

I must be strange. I just don't rely on any labels for my happiness. I couldn't care less what you thought of me, just as long as we have a great time together. That's all that matters.
If I really cared about what other people thought, I wouldn't see any of my friends. They have all done or said something I thought was hurtful, bad, etc.... It just doesn't matter.
Can you and I make magic when we're together. That's all that matters.
No one knows about tomorrow, it's no use worrying about it.
You know, I want to be wanted like any other person but there's no way to really know...ever.
So what I'm left with are facts, right now, what you chose to do. If someone "pretends" to be my friend but says stupid stuff about me behind my back, I wouldn't care. Just as long as we enjoyed ourselves truly when we are together.
Hey, I know some of those sentences where not properly structured. Deal with it!
Peace.

Xmas

It was 52F on Christmas day when I had a late lunch at Latchi's.
I drank too much warm Sake and played with the kitties.
I started my trek to her place in tears as I watched the highway go by.
I guess the sun was setting and the music was beautiful.

I wonder where I'll end up today.

I don't know where I'm going but I do know where I'm not.
Hoping is futile and waiting is hopeless.
I guess I use to wait for others to behave in a specific way...a way that I thought was right.
How stupid of me.
First of all, there is no right for all. I guess there is only right for me.

mother of the year

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set oftriplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in thepregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth. The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly startedto decline in health, although physically she was fine. Theveterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into adepression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogateanother mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.
After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weaner pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Would they become cubs or pork chops??

Take a look........ you won't believe your eyes!!

Abortion

The terms used for the egg in a woman's uterus after it has been fertilized by a sperm are zygote, blastocyst, embryo or foetus depending on the stage of development.

I find interesting that the term used by people against other people having abortion for this bag of cells is an "unborn child".

So I guess along the same line of thinking we should call human beings "pre-dead cadavres"?

New Biz

so I officially started my business last week. It's called jeanjoel spatafora LLC. How about that. Yeah, I've decided to run all my odd jobs and art stuff thru the LLC. Basically I'm an independent contractor. It'll be easier to keep track of $ and file taxes, etc....

titleless

OK, so I've changed my site again. I can't help it.
I do, however, think it's the best one so far.
So I found out about facebook.com. It's really cool, much better than myspace.

I wonder if the new congress will bend over that the abused child that they are in front of bush's proposal to spend MORE money abroad that could be spent here. I guess no one in washington realise that people are suffering here too.

I've been trying to make blogger have the same look as my website.
This is the closest that I got.
It's not too bad but not perfect either.

Video Time!!!

Ok, so I'm not religious but I really like this video about Katrina.

This one is really cool! How to fold a T-shirt. I'm not kidding. I have to watch this.

This one is called: "Truth happens". I love it!!!

Yo, people! Give me some feedback!

New years eve

It was great!
I didn't want to plan anything.
I hate planning. I told Tory and Latchi that I would make it to their party weeks before, and I felt obligated to go.
I hate that, but I had fun.
First, Do and I went to 609, in the Loop, to smoke a hookah. I asked to bartender to add a shot of Sambuca in the water.
They didn't have coffee drinks, so he brought us 2 french press coffee with a 2 shots of Bailey's Irish Cream and Kahlua.
I mixed it up, it was delicious!
This was at 6pm, at 7 we went to Tory's but the door was locked. We rang and he came out of the basement sweating and wearing military pants and a Giraffe mask. They were, undoubtedly having sex.
The party didn't start until 8pm, he informed us, we left.
We drove to the Boy's house and chatted for an hour and went back to Tory's.
We stayed there for about an hour and then proceded to our next stop: Latchi's.
Her condo is way out there but I'm glad we went.
I love Latchi, and it was great seeing her and her new place.
It was nice seeing everyone else.
It was interesting seeing the horror in Susie eyes when Do tried to shake her hand, but that's another story.
We left an hour later to go to Perry's Jacuzzi. No one was there. It was amazing. We chilled outside in the tub for an hour.
I'll skip the details of what happened there...
We ended up home at 11:58, just enough time to mix the champagne and pineapple juice and climb on the roof to see all the fireworks from downtown, clayton and webster.

2006, here we come.

My 2005 Show...WOW!!!

What a night.
I wanted to thank everyone that showed up for my artshow last night. It was awesome!
I and I gallery was such a great place to show my stuff.
There was a chill atmosphere, great music, wine and mid-eastern food.
(By the way, do you know the difference between "food" and "cuisine", about $10)
Anyway, I sold 11 pieces of artwork, and met some really interesting people.
Last night felt like a real art openning, I was great. I saw a couple of people that were disappointed because they had not bought their piece fast enough.
Anyway, thank you so much everyone.

My next show will be on Jan. 13 2006. at Subterranean Books.
I'll keep you posted.
Actually, I'll use Evite to send the invitations. It worked pretty well.

2nd gear?

Is it me or did humanity just got into second gear?
I tell ya, life has never been so good since I realized that I'm going to die.
Death is the one thing that gives life meaning.
I'm sure some people reading this, are thinking: "Do you have cancer? Are you terminally ill?"
No! I don't have cancer. We are ALL going to die :)

Did you ever notice, when on a trip somewhere like Europe, or the Caribbean, anywhere fun, that you usually meet the cool people a few days before you have to go back home. I mean, you can spend 2 weeks there, trying to connect, but nothing. And then, 2 days before your flight back, you meet someone really interesting.
Ever wondered why this happens?
I think, you start relaxing. You give up, you stop trying so hard. There are no more expectations. You are free. And then it comes. It comes naturally.
I think, life is the same way. You start relaxing when you see that it will end. All of the sudden, the colors are brighter, you notice minute details, overlooked by the noises in your head.
"I need to lose weight, I'm too fat!"
"I must get the latest car, mine's a piece of crap!"
"What will THEY think of me?"
Does any of this matters?
Life is great, drink it!
B!

Back to School!

Ok! So I'm going back to school.
I start tomorrow. That's going to be interesting :)
I will be a "Junior" I guess.
I'm taking fine arts and will be studying painting with this amazing guy: Victor Wang.

Sunday Dominique and I went to this pool/B-day party that was clothing optional. I was a bit weary at first thinking that it would be somekind of swap thing but it was great. No swap thing at all :) This house was amazing, the guy is a sculpture and designed and built it himself. It overlooks beautiful fields or corn I guess. There is a 600 feet down path that leads to a pool that would dwarf an olympic pool. There is also a zip line that goes from a tree to the pool. We took our clothes off on this beautiful sunny day and layed around all day. More people started showing up, most of which got naked as well. It was all great until some woman started talking about finding a good man, or how "isn't it wonderful that we are naked" sort of thing which was tiring after a while. I kept focussing on light of the sun hitting the big trees that surrounded the big oversized oval pool.
Life is good!

Festival of Nations performance

I really had fun...it's been a while since I played drums. I miss it.
This is my mom dancing. She had fun too.
This is the whole band...

So I made it! I was so hot, I thought I was going to pass out.
This is a picture of me and my mom.

Festival of Nations

So tomorrow, Sunday, I'll be playing drums representing the island of Guadeloupe at the Festival of Nations in Tower Grove Park at 4:00pm.
If you can, you should stop by.
One thing I notice about St. Louis is that it's so easy to miss events because there are no huge banners in all the street to promote it. Only the usuals remember.
In other cities, when something's happening, you can't help knowing about it. The ads are everywhere.
Anyway, enough of that.
I had to tighten my drum today. I'm going to have to tape my finger because some of the skin peeled of as I was streching canvas.

A message from my friend Benny

About bombing NYC, Madrid & London

Dear friends,
These days we are all from London. Yesterday we were from New York and
Madrid.
Our duty is to keep on living with faith & love inspite of obstacles and
tragedies that we can found in our path through life.
It is a nonsense to darken our lifes, to get blinded by hate or pain and
definetely it is not a way to pay homage to those who died or have been
injured.
Let's cultivate and safeguard tolerance & happiness & : paradoxically,
it is the very best answer to intolerance and misfortune & tragedy.
Force will not change anything.
Violence will not change anything.
Terrorism will not change anything.
The enemy to shoot is not Occident, Orient, Middle east or Far East. The
enemy is simply fundamentalism and intolerance under any form.
So keep on laughing, smiling, living, understanding, loving &
transmitting this happiness and faith to our children. Because against
this no bomb, no religion, no political group can fight.
Think today how lucky you are. Be thankful for having a roof, eating
when you want, having freedom of expression, being surrounded by beloved
people, being able to do what you want to do with your life.
And SMILE all day long.

yours Benny

Tiny bubble

I'm a tiny bubble
floating on the top
I ride with the waves
with no end in mind
you can see underneath
if you're above
you can see above
if you're below
I've seen strange creatures
above and below
I've seen sunlight and the rainbow
I don't know where I came from
but this I know
one day
this tiny bubble will pop!
and the air that was contained
within the thin layer of water
will be claimed by the sky
and so will the water
merge back into the vast ocean
and this tiny bubble
will be no more.

I live in my head

I live in my head
while some are trying to get an out of body experience
I'm trying to feel mine
thoughts are projected on my mind-screen
I'd say they're mine but they're not
others have the same
maybe thoughts are like radio waves
and we are the receiver/transmitter
picking up broadcasts
I wonder if we have preset stations
like the Christian channel, NPR
I wonder if we could reconfigure them
or not listen at all
maybe I can do this,
feel my body
it d0esn't require thought
it's just awaness
without the eye
without the I

Difference between knowledge & Information

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION?
Well, I'll tell you a little story, when my daughter Kian was about 2 or 3 we were driving thru the loop in U-City and she spotted a crow and yelled: "papa, regarde!" which means:"papa! look!" (we speak French to each other). I glanced at the bird for half a second and said: "Oh yeah, that's a crow!" and that was the end of that. A few seconds later I realized that what she was pointing out was this interesting flying flapping black creature in the blue sky that was happening right now but what I was pointing at was the definition I had in my head of what a crow is. ie: a black bird of this size, that lives here, etc.... I realized that I didn't really look at what was happening now, I was using a past reference that was stored in my memory. I could not see. I would never be able to see this particular crow at this moment ever again. It was happening live :)Knowledge is now. It is not in time. Knowledge is felt, information is thought. Information are bits and pieces of useless data. It's not useless for material things such as building a road, house, etc....but when it has to do with relationships, emotions, psychological well being then it is not only useless but detrimental (interesting word, detrimental. Detri-mental, detri (destroy) mental (mind). You can have the information that smoking will hurt and kill your lungs, and still smoke. But when you can't breathe and have some chest pain or are coughing out bits and pieces of lungs then that's knowledge. You see? one is an idea, abstract, non personal the other is you.

Reply: I like it. What a great way to view life. Everything changes so fast and we are always using our prejudices and judgements to cloud what we see.

My theory on alien abduction

MY THEORY ON ALIEN ABDUCTION.
I believe that the brain records everything whether you remember it or not. All sensations that you had since childbirth, and probably before, are stored there. What struck me about these stories of abduction was the similarity between them. They all see this bright light, they are then probed, tested, etc... by these creature with big eyes. Well I believe they are just having a flashback about their own birth. If you think about it, at birth, your eyes aren't very developed so your vision might be blurry, then you are yanked from a warm and dark place into a cold and bright unknown space by these unknown creatures. All you can see are their eyes because the rest of their faces are covered with fabrick. These "aliens" Doctors and nurses manipulate, test, probe, weight, etc... your body.So between some theory of weird looking creatures probing humans for unknown reasons or having a "flash back" of an actual experience...I'll stick with the actual experience. That's my theory and I stick by it :)

Re-incarnation VS Re-distribution

I don't believe in re-incarnation, I believe in re-distribution.
Re-incarnation: meaning to re-enter the flesh, again... Our flesh is made up of "borrowed" particles such as calcium for bone, water for blood, etc... These particles, when we die, become free from the "glue" that binds them together. They are dispursed into the cosmos and are re-cycled or sent to where ever they are needed at the time. Much the same as a drop or water falling from the clouds finds it way back into the ocean. And I'm not saying that the ocean is the source, it's just another point in the cycle.
How do I account for past memories of far away places you say?
Well let me tell you :), matter is intelligent and since our bodies are made up of borrowed matter, we, sometimes become aware of its past. Whether it was used to make a rock, or part of a person, or a soil fertilizer.

Reply: so, just the same as the flesh disperses into the atmosphere as you say, so again it can come together to form a new body,.no?... not necessarily human but a new body for the soul to reside in. Matter is neither created nor destroyed, but merely changes form.... I love that scientific theory, it goes perfectly well with reincarnation, or redistribution as you want to call it.

The Madness Continues

The madness continues
It amazes me that I have to tell myself to slowdown. It always seems like I have to rush through life because there's something or another that I have to do. So I go through life always preoccupied with the next thing that needs to be done and never able to enjoy what going on right now... I mean REALLY enjoy. To enjoy something completely would be to be lost in it. When this happens, it give me the sensation that I've arrived. The yearning emptiness is no longer. I no longer feel cut out or feel like I'm missing something. Isn't it strange that by trying to become ONE with everything we feel cut out, left out and the minute you stop trying, you are one with everything. It would seem like the desire it itself creates the pain, it's telling me that I'm lacking something, that I'm not complete whereas if you drop the desire, then there's no emptiness, nothing missing. Of course it's very simple to say it because trying not to have a desire can be just another form of desire :-) and there you are again running after your smoky dreams.

Reply: I CONSTANTLY FEEL LIKE IM MISSING OUT ON THE BEST QUALITIES IN LIFE LOOKING AND THINKING ABOUT THE FUTURE. I AM ALWAYS REMINDING MYSELF TO NOT WORRY BECAUSE WORRYING DOES NOT DO ME A BIT OF GOOD. JUST BY LIVING IN A SMALL COUNTRY TOWN I HAVE TRIED TO MAKE MYSELF SLOW DOWN AND TAKE TIME TO SMELL THE ROSES. I MAKE MYSELF OBSERVE NATURE AT ITS Finest AND THAT HELPS ME TO ENJOY THE MOMENT AND NOT HAVE A LOT OF DESIRES FOR THE FUTURE. JUST A EVERYDAY SUNSET OR WATCHING HUMMINGBIRDS PROVIDES ME WITH A RELAXATION THAT REMINDS ME TO ENJOY LIFE AT THAT VERY MOMENT.

My birth day

SOoooo it was my birthday on June 9th. 38 years old :o I feel like I'm 28 and I act like I'm 12. It's all good!I don't think I could be happier. I wake up when I want to, do a little painting, walk around the park, play video games, pet the cats, eat on South Grand....what else could I wish for. I have no boss, no uniform, no timecard, aaaaaah, it feels good.So I went to Denver last week and it was super great! It's an amazing feeling to be able to sit outside downtown eating a Cali-beni (Eggs benedict with avocado, yumm!), and see the mountain range in between the buildings. That was so cool! There's a free bus that takes you up and down this mile long shopping district. There's a HUGE art scene...well, compare to Saint Louis. We found a really good Italian restaurant that actually cook the pasta al dente unlike our dear friends from The Hill that calls themselves real Italian (yeah, I know, I'm making a lot of friends by writing this :) ). The restaurant has it's own gelateria. Now that's Italian. It was delicious, I recommend it. If you're ever in Denver go to "Parisi"
On another subject, you guys shouldn't miss my art show on June 24th from 5pm to 8pm at Gallery M and don't forget also akachique every second Friday for "Arzy Hour".
